Today seems like a good day to burn a bridge or two

I had a good run while it lasted.

On Wednesday, my eating was about 70% on plan. That constitutes as one bad day of eating. Somebody brought in some cookies to work and this was me for the rest of the day:

Coookies!

So as punishment, I decided to do a double workout. I went ahead and did the 30 minutes of HIIT on the elliptical machine. But first, I indulged in this doozy of a workout:
It's a love/hate relationship between me and Debbie. I love this workout because the results that I get from doing it are amazing, but I hate it because it gets pretty hard in the second and third levels. Oh well, I just have to suck it up.

I was wondering, Do you think it matters in what order you do your workouts? In respects to cardio and strength training? I like to do the strength training before the cardio, because the strength exercises make me stronger, thus making the cardio part more bearable. But to get maximum results, which one should go first? Or does it not matter at all?

Cardio before Strengh or Strength before Cardio?

  1. As a massage therapist, I would recommend doing just what you are doing. Doing cardio first would most likely cause the muscles to fatigue and you wouldn't be able to lift as heavy.

Kudos for doing extra work after the cookies!

  2. I've heard both, but the more I read the more the strength before cardio seems to be what the majority recommends.

Bravo for doing the double workout. I have a love/hate with some of my workout DVDs as well. ;)

    Best wishes,
    Lynn

  3. I personally like weight before cardio. If I didn't do it that way, I would never get through the weight part.

I was watching "Cake Boss" and he was making Sesame Street's 40th anniversary cake. I'm thinking...ok...your trying to lose weight...and watching cookie monster on "Cake Boss"?? Your pic reminded me of it :)

  4. well i would say strength before cardio usually, but if i'm running i CANNOT do weights and then go run, i'm always burnt out!! so in that case i do weights last! i don't know any scientifics to it, just listen to my body!

  5. i do cardio b4 strength cuz if I do strength first, I'm shaking while doing my cardio. ESPECIALLY I don't do strength before I swim!! Because then... I might drown. :P or choke on water in the 5ft swimming pool they have at my gym.

  6. I like strength before for the same reasons that you do. It just makes cardio seem like a breeze!

  7. My trainer at my club told me never to do both in the same day because the muscles need to be repaired. By cardio I mean over 30 minutes keeping your heart rate up and not the stardard ten minute warm up

  8. I'm ****so***** behind, was just browsing through my reader and I had to go through to answer this:

I've always heard do strength first. Then one day I did cardio first and strength following. Guess what? I got a much better calorie burn on my strength than I normally would have. So now I do strength last. lol It's all about calories out, not about the muscles, right? lol
